Translation Asset Development and Management
Maintaining and operating a linguistic operation requires multiple assets such as translation memories, terminologies, glossaries, style guides, segmentation rules and so forth. Translation Asset Development and Management is key to sustaining such an operation and achieving efficiencies that help the bottom line. With advanced technologies such as YYZ Hub, a technology savvy team of language specialists and experience, YYZ Translations can help you and your enterprise develop and manage your linguistic and translation assets for today and tomorrow.
Translation Memory (TM) Management Services
Translation Memory (TM) is a database of translated source and target-language segments. Each time a document is translated, every sentence is matched by our translation tools with the segments in the TM database. Previously translated sentences are suggested when a match is found, and the translator may decide to use the match, modify it or disregard it and translate fresh. Our Translation Management System (TMS), commercially known as the YYZ Hub, manages all TM databases.
Translation Memory brings in efficiency, consistency and quality to the translation output through the recycling and reuse of legacy translation. It has become the standard in the localization industry for translation of technical and general texts. There are a large number of translation-environment tools (TEnTs) available today that support translation memory and terminology leveraging. Our Computer-Aided Translation (CAT) service makes maximum use of translation memories.
We maintain all TM databases in our TMS and back them up on a nightly basis. Clients can always export their TM databases and use them for their internal projects. YYZ Translations provides engineering resources to maintain locale relevancy/correctness, perform alignment (convert legacy translated material into a TM database), import TMs from other systems such as Trados, export and convert TMs in the standard TMX format, and other related functions.
We take great care in ensuring the security and integrity of our clients’ proprietary and confidential data. It is our policy to maintain a separate TM (and related material such as terminology) package for every client or every client’s different divisions (such as internal or external customers). Our systems are set up so that cross-TM pollution is not possible.
Glossary and Terminology Adaptation Services
Every industry and every organization has a philosophy, culture, vision, lexicon and terminology of their own. Most companies do not even realize that they have specific terminology in use, but any word that is specific to a company and its industry or profession automatically becomes part its corporate image.
We use state-of-the-art terminology and glossary-management tools to ensure that every clients translated documents reflect their vision, philosophy, branding and marketing style. Besides using translation memory in our Computer-Aided Translation services, we maintain client glossaries in our Translation Management System. This results in terminology harvesting for every new project from the same client (upon the start of a relationship with a new client, we create a list of terms for them) and as so much less time is spent by the translator searching for the meaning of technical terms, branding and language consistency is maintained and converts to an increased ROI for our clients due to the shortening of time to the market window. As our production systems come across new terms in newer source material, we translate and seek the client’s approval and eventually add newly found terms to the master terminology, which will be available for harvesting for future projects.
We work with professional, in-country terminologists who have firsthand knowledge of the language and the target industries. Just like translation, every terminology adaptation project goes through a rigorous set of quality assurance steps, which can include client review and sign-off.
Efficiency is key to translation services. Most clients translate documentation over and over again and “reinvent the wheel” each time. Our technology enables us to take your existing translated content and create a Translation Memory (TM) that can significantly reduce the overhead and turnaround time for a project by reusing already-translated content.
Alignment requires the supervision of a language engineer and must be carefully managed to ensure that a quality product is produced at the end to be used for implemented.. This is a very tedious process and can be costly, depending on the volume of text to be aligned. Under certain circumstances, we provide this as a free, value-added service for long-term projects, which benefits our clients by allowing them to reap the rewards gained from shorter turnaround times and the need for our frontline teams by reducing the overhead it takes to look up new terms. While clients may advise us to not touch translated segments that are a 100% match, we go the extra mile to ensure the translation is relevant, because context and end-user perception can change over time.
Language Service Providers (LSPs) benefit from our alignment services as with a small investment, they can achieve significant savings from reduced spending as a result of higher match rates, less QA costs, and higher quality and consistency rates.
